About me

C++ DeveloperMy favorite today is Unix system programming in C/C++ and web programming in PHP.
I started my computer careerer in 1983 with a Sinclair ZX81 box. That was little bit frustrating because I was just 13 years old, but wanted to develop my own pong-like computer games. That was too much for the beginning so I started to copy basic listings from early PC magazines.

Story

I grew up, and with me my computer that became a famous Commodore 64 in 1984. At all this was more fun (still remember the sys 40192 call), I learned Basic, later 8082 Assembler and wrote some nice dexterity games. Most times I was programming physical (like gravity) simulations on a very low level, basically Newton mechanics. The shiny thing was the pixel-graphic in my simulations.

In 1985 I bought a Atari ST 520 because GEM was so hype. I can remember the religious war between Atarians and Amigians - I was on the Atari side. This also was my first “.net” year! I got an acoustic dial device to dial into strange networks like the “maus” network. I also tried to dial into the networks of big companies - fortunately I failed. I learned GFA-Basic, later C and developed some nice “Intelligence” games like MasterMind, 4 wins etc. and one action game using C and Assembler for two players with splitscreen and joysticks! In 1987 I was publishing my first listings to computer magazines.

1988 I moved to the DOS world, bought myself a no-name 80286 and wrote my own GEM-like window system. Unfortunately I was not ready for business, else there would not be a MS Windows now :-)
Until 1991 I had some jobs in the early computer business in Munich / Germany.

1992-1995 I studied computer science on the university of applied science in Munich (minor subject was communications science). Graduated in early 1996 and became a freelance computer consultant. Basically I was programming in Turbo Pascal, Delphi and Borland C++.

In 1997 I was hired by Reuters Ltd. as technical consultant for the real-time position keeping system Kondor+. I stayed an employee for one year but am working with Kondor+ now for about 10 years. It’s a very well designed solaris application using a sybase database as storage. Together with the quote supply tier “Triarch” or TibRendezvous, a load-balancing Kondor+ system can easily make up to like 20 Ultra 1 machines (in 1998, today it’s made of E16k’s). So this was my entrance to high end computing. I wandered into the server-rooms of large banks for years.

On business side, when I quit my job for Reuters in 1998 I founded a company called targit GmbH together with Dirk Hoepner. Basically I was doing Kondor+ consulting here also - but with the spot on the stock quote supply tier “Triarch” and “Tibco“. I invented and programmed a Solaris middleware for stock quote distribution that became kind of a blockbuster in German banks, later ported that “tdist” to AIX and Linux. Leading a company was a challenge for some years. But after 5 years I sold my part of the company in 2003. We had like 25 employees at this point and about 3 Mill. EUR turnover.

Since late 2003 I am working as a freelance consultant again. This is a great position for me because I need changing challenges and changing environments to get my job satisfaction.

In 2005 I started serious business in the Internet universe. With my lawyer directory driven by a self-developed LAMP CMS I conquered a pretty good share of the market. My Wii Community based on Drupal 5 is growing very well and my company proxiss also prospers as necessary.

If you need a freelance IT consultant in the area of Munich/Germany, please don’t hesitate to contact me!
